Name changing

I’m specifically reffering to the ability to change your USERNAME. If Lichess could implement a system where you could have a permanent name such as your real name, an email, or any other type of name. THEN a display name. Which would be the name one has to look at all the time. You should be able to change your display name.

P.S. I’m not dissatisfied with my name as of right now (as it describes me perfectly), but I know this feature would be appreciated communally, and possibly by myself in the future.

As already mentioned, it is impossible
If you can reformulate the entire Lichess source code so that nothing is broken
And don't kill the more than 3TB of data located in the Lichess databases
And the data search is light and very fast

It would be possible, but it's also kind of impossible

all you have to do is rewrite lichess's backend thats all

I SO agree with you, but I don't think this'll work. Try giving feedback to convince Lichess staff members that you want usernames PLS display names!

username is used as primary key in database. I do not know the reasoning but I know it was clearly intentional choise. Hence changing username basically makes a new user not connected to old one.

I am really curious to know why this choice.
I have the gut feeling that the Lichess development teams is made of very competent and skilled people.
I have seen the compression algorithm they developed, and it's amazing, so I tend to think that there should be a very obscure but real reason that explains this choice.
And I am really curious to know it
