Hello there,
I would like to buy a decent wooden chess set. Nothing too fancy, just something to replace a crap cheap plastic set. Budget around £100 (based in the UK).
Anything I should know? Any recommendations?
Apologies if this question has been discussed in another thread...
Cheers
Just a comment, do you really want a wooden set?
Some well-weighted high quality plastic sets are very nice when used on a good roll-up board, and may be cheaper than a wooden board and set.
Hi Allonautilus,
Thanks for your reply. It's a good question. I think I would like a wooden set. Something that will last forever. Partly for sentimental reasons too.
I would be interested in an example of a high quality plastic set tho. What would you recommend?
I had something like this in mind (commercial website):

Thanks for the tip. I will do a little research on quality plastic sets.
Much appreciated
If you buy a wooden chess set, for heaven's sake make sure that the pieces have felt on the bottom.
How about this one? (around 82 pounds I guess, consider it 100 with the shipping etc.)
market.satrancokulu.com/miknatisli-staunton-ahsap-takimWe've requested that they buy one for the office ... for those after lunch coffees. If it arrives I may be able to comment more on it, but seems decent from the pics.
House of Staunton, have style & class.
Be like Sarg0n.
Thanks
@GoMentalGoBloody . Let me know if you buy one and if so, if it's any good.
@Sarg0n ; House of Staunton looks great. Pricey tho!
