I used to play Quake 3 rail-only mods a lot. There were a bunch of awesome servers, where you could use the bfg and the grenade launcher to propel yourself with splash damage off surfaces, it was pretty crazy, everyone would be flying all over the map, like in defrag. But that particular server is gone now.
I switched to ps3 a couple of years ago. Mortal Kombat and Tekken are probably what I play the most to this day =)
The last game I played on PC was DARK FALL LOST SOULS. A really creepy horror-quest game. I'm also a fan of the Silent Hill series.
I tried to get into Dark Souls because all my bandmates are fans, but it was too much for me. Too hardcore and not enough story =)
I'm currently undecided as to whether go next gen or not, because new MK is coming out on ps4 soon, but I'm not sure I can afford it. Both money and time wise =)

MK and Tekken huh? Not really my favourite fighters (especially not Tekken, which turns into a jugglefest at high level), and I say this as someone who used to play Soul Calibur III at competitive level. :) I think the only good fighting game these days is King of Fighters XIII (PC, PS3, X360 and mobile), which is the peak of the fighting genre IMO. A solid second pick is the Guilty Gear series. Still need to play Guilty Gear Xrd though.
On the next gen thing, it's only really worth it if you're getting a Wii U in my opinion as it has a lot of great exclusives. It's not particularly difficult or expensive to set up a Home Theatre PC (HTPC) which emulates the 'living room experience' of consoles.
So for me, as someone who has generally been a PC gamer, just have a PC for single player-centric games and get an HTPC if you really need the living room feel (or the upcoming Steam Link, which streams games from a powerful PC to your TV!). Split screen is pretty much dead anyway across AAA games, so PC is the way to go -- the exception being Nintendo's Wii U.

#22: OpenArena (http://openarena.ws) has a server running the "city" mod, where you have only railgun and a rocket launcher. The rocket launcher throws you super high, and you play on large maps.
