Anyone know of a good chess program?

I am looking for a program that has a coach function of warning a player if he makes a bad move and without telling the player the better move and if possible also the option of "find a better move" in analysis like lichess has.
Hi Poldi,

I worked with SCID (http://scid.sourceforge.net/) which does have a "coach" function which warns you when one of your moves gives away x centipawns. You play against any engine (of course you will only use this for play with an engine, right), and another engine is the coach and watches your moves.
Theres more functionality like guessing the moves of master games with the coach watching, but i am not sure if you can emulate that lichess function you were talking about.

The coach function is very buggy in my SCID installation, not sure if this will be a problem for you, could be due to my computer setup or something else.
I recommend using Fritz which has a coach function that warns the player if he is going astray. You can also use Fritz to tell you the positional evaluation (in centipawns) of all legal moves in the current position. The Fritz GUI also has a hint function which will give you the current best move that it is thinking about.

I recommend buying Fritz for the GUI, but you should replace the Fritz engine with Stockfish 8 because according to the CCRL (Computer Chess Ratings List) at http://www.computerchess.org.uk/ccrl/404/ and the TCEC (Top Chess Engine Competition) web site at http://tcec.chessdom.com/live.php Stockfish 8 is now the world's strongest chess playing program.

You can download Stockfish 8 for free here: stockfishchess.org/download/
Hi Loka I downloaded SCID I looked through all the options but I could not find the coach option, if you could help me with that would appreciated it.

William, I am aware that Fritz has the coach option but if I remember correctly it gives you a better move suggestion, which is what I don't want. If I play against the computer and make a blunder I want the computer to warn me and me having to find out a better move myself, if we are simply given a better move we may not understand the idea behind it so I don't think that's the ideal way to learn.
Haven't done this in a while. I believe there are two ways to do it. I just clicked through it once.
1) Play -> Serious Game, a dialog shows up where you set "coach is watching" to yes.
2) Play -> Tactical Game should do the same, but i'm not sure
The other options you find at Play -> Training. But i recommend searching the help files, it should be documented there.
If you haven't done this yet: You need to install the chess engines seperatly and tell SCID about them. I have stockfish and togaII, both are free. Again, hit the manuals if youre not sure how to set everyting up.
great, thanks guys, where can I change the value of when the coach warns me? for example if I want to be warned at 0.8 centi pawn blunder or something
