A new level of thought.

So I just played a blitz game for warm up
here
http://en.lichess.org/WnHWCozQ#43
and the game was not bad
but was not good either
this is a typical game of mine in which I lose on time
until move 22 (or 17 or so) I was comfortable little by little improving the position, more or less, its blizt,
but then I had a position in which I was "winning" but I had no idea of how to take advantage,
u see that the game in general does not look tactical, perhaps im mistaken so if I were a player with more experience maybe I would have been able to come up with something but what I usually have is a position in which, sometimes, I am slightly better, specially with white, but I dont have the time to find the answer and this is why I dont improve
It requires a new level of thought as I said in the title
and I cant do that in seconds I can only move pieces
so thats just my analysis of my last blitz game, I wanted to share it because maybe others have this issue, when u reach a position and its slightly winning but its a slow win
thats why I dont believe in blitz but I keep playing it.
I think blitz gives you the false idea of learning chess, It does not work for me, maybe it works for others.
I think I am a positional player, a positional patzer, although I have been focusing on tactics lately, my strength is the position or thats what I like in the game, my player is karpov I think, the player where i learnt chess from
but that type of play its usually not good for blitz anyway, just my two cents.
In short I dont think its possible to play chess in such a short time frame, I find it unbeliavable however the facts are against me cause top chess players play it all the time.
But then I look yesterday, I took a random game of Carlsen
this one
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1744962
and I was amazed about that move, g4, I mean how is someone gonna learn anything like that playing blitz,
even top players need hours of analysis.
I am not talking about Carlsen maybe he is a special case and he just knows the answer but Gelfand or anyone in general needs time to understand such idea.
1. If you lose on time more than occasionally, you can learn to avoid that. You'll make a few more mistakes, but you'll win more games. Time management is skill like any other, and if your dismissing blitz, your not trying to learn it.

2. Some people gain or lose more than others when playing at different time controls. Some people are relatively poor at blitz compared to their rating. HOWEVER, even those people, and I am one of them, can enjoy blitz games at slightly longer time controls. I find 5 minutes, 6 increment works out nicely for me, and that I'm quite a bit stronger at this time control than at 5 0.
Then why on earth are you playing bullet games? Pick a time control, like my 5/6. Whatever works for you, just PICK ONE. This will enable you to learn how much time you can spend on each move, and your time management will improve, improving your results and your enjoyment.
You said that you felt you didn't have enough experience to capitalize on a winning position quickly. I think a good idea is to just play lots of long time control games and correspondence games, where you think about every move as deeply as possible. It will help you learn and recognize some patterns and positions quickly, and then your blitz game will improve. And solve puzzles every day too, to improve tactical vision. At least that's the way I'm going about it. The improvement is very slow but steady.
thank you, ep14n05t and ArtNj, I will do that.
For bullet and blitz you need to learn how to attack. From your game i see nothing but only trade in first 20 moves or so. In Blitz or even better in bullet you can make a random move that you are not sure what will happen but same goes for your opponent. And from there game can go in both direction - that's what makes blitz/bullet great specially in low time with premoving. If your move distturb position in a good way for you - there you go, you now have smth to work on it.
Then you see new tactic, new attack, new crazy position and thats bring joy in blitz/bullet
"From your game i see nothing but only trade in first 20 moves or so."

Yes, this reminds me of a quote from some GM:

"To take, is a mistake"

Of course this isn't an absolute rule, and it depends on the position.

Don't take without a purpose, though.

If you don't know what to do besides taking a piece, think about how you might use your pieces to form an attack. If you just exchange off, you will have one less piece to work with for an attack (or defense).
