Donating to lichess

I want to donate in USD. But I can't see the option. All I see now is pounds, but I prefer United States Dollar. If it is a new "feature" then I request that it be changed back. Thanks in advance.

Interesting. All I can see is Euros, and no way to change it. Maybe it automatically chooses the currency that is legal tender in the country of your IP address? That would mean that you could work around it by going through a US proxy...

But of course I agree that the currency should be selectable.

@MagnusSonOfKiwis Sure, that's a possible workaround (or you could simply calculate the exchange). However, when you make a regular donation, it will be subject to exchange fluctuations. Back when I started donating, I could only choose US-$ even though I have a € account. Now my donation to lichess is slightly different each month. It's not a big hassle, mind you, but can be annoying for unstable currencies or shifting world economics.

@caughtinarut, by US proxy, do you mean a VPN which is set to the US? But then, would it still be okay with the mods? I mean, if they found out...

@Nyghtguard Yes, possibly via VPN. I think you can also set the exit node of a tor browser to a specific country.
I don't think it would be a problem with the mods, especially since you only need to do that once for setting up the donation. However, you really shouldn't take my word for it.
In any case, such workarounds shouldn't be necessary to begin with.
You could just wait for some lichess response.

@Nyghtguard you can change which currency you'll use in your donation by changing your language setting on Lichess, so for you to donate in US dollars, it looks like you simply have to change your language to English (US).

This is exactly why you can now donate in other currencies; it saves users the trouble of converting their currency to USD, but I guess some people want to donate in USD even if their country's currency is something else.

Also, using a VPN won't get you in trouble with the mods unless you are using a VPN to break Lichess's rules (i.e. ban evasion).
