this is b.s.

ok,, I've been banned from the lobby.

the message i got was "i abandoned too many game" or i don't start many game i enter.

had this account for two years. i even contributed money to this site.

the reason i've been abandoning games lately is because this site disconnect me and it doesn't register my moves. it's been going on for a week almost.

i don't even see the games i'm "abandoning" because it freezes.

my internet is fine as far as i know, there's no lag according to the lag page. but somehow this site disconnects me every minute or two. sometime i can't even open the home page or any other page for that matter, so i know the disconnection isn't even related to games being played, it the site in general.

no response from the owners.

what gives?

at least don't count my "abandoned" games against me because it's not my fault.
Have you tried a different browser (to narrow down your problem)?
yes, i tried 3 different browser, cleared my cookies, changed various DNS, etc.

i know it has to do with my connection and their server, but my connection seems to be fine otherwise.

there are other players that routinely have this problem, too.

and two months ago, i was on a google fiber connection (100 mb) and i had sort of the same problem, where it would disconnect periodically.

i know this because i have to keep on "create a game" because my game would disappear from the list, and besides, it says "reconnecting" every minute or so.

also, i encounter many games where my opponent never moves. i suspect this is the same problem, because when i go back to see my games that my opponents click on, they abort because i don't move, but i either never see the game, or i can't move, or it never registers my move.

i can't believe this amazing site is so sensitive to minor breaks in the connection.
@galaxie-500 Were you on the same computer as you're currently seeing the issues when using the google fiber connection?

Do you play any other online games and experience connection problems on them? (Such as first person shooters like counter strike, or league of legends or something)
yes,i was on the same computer, but not as bad as currently. it showed "reconnecting", but never froze like this. but no i don't play other online games.

it happens to other players on here.

i know it must have to do with my connection to the server, but it was fine until a few days ago. but periodically happens.
just now, i opened to home page (lichens.org) and it loaded.

in the time that it took to respond to you, i got this message:

"safari can't open the page en.lichess.org because the server where this page is located isn't responding"

so i have to retry like multiple time until is opens again.

i don't have this problem with any other site.
@galaxie-500

You didn't answer my question about whether you're able to play other online games that require a persistent connection (such as League of Legends) without the connection breaking. This would help us work out if there's a problem with your computer's networking settings / your connection / your router / something else...

A difference between lichess and many other sites is that lichess requires a persistent connection to the server via websockets. Many other sites just connect / disconnect from the remote server as they ask it if anything has changed (has the other player moved? etc)

Are you up for attempting some 'fairly technical' debugging to see if we can find anything interesting about what might be doing on?

1. Install google chrome.
2. Go to lichess.
3. Press F12 (to open up the developer console)
4. Go to the network tab
5. Click 'WS' at toolbar (about 2-3 levels down from the top)
6. Wait for a disconnect (or two)
7. Send me a screenshot of what the network tab looks like when that happens.
8. I may have some follow up questions!
i'm on a mac, but i use chrome for some things, including lichess. i'll figure out how to do F12 and get back to you later. thanks!!
oh, this just started happening (again) last week. it alway broke connection, but for a few seconds, but lately it's gotten to the point where it happens for 20 seconds or so. enough time for people to abort games because it appears for them that i'm not there, or for my opponents to claim victory because i "left the game".

this has happened to other player as well.
