Computer Analysis - Show more variations

Hi there, I love that lichess has the computer analysis feature, I just feel it's kind of limiting my view on a game too much. It picks the moves that are of interest (by game score change) and only shows one alternative.

So I think these additions would vastly improve the analysis mode:
1. Make it possible to show computer suggestions for every move, not only the mistakes. Often, the moves where there wasn't a mistake are way more interesting to look at.
2. Show more than one variation (I know this might take up more CPU time so it's maybe not possible)

The way the computer analysis works now I often have to copy positions to a different chess GUI so I can learn more about a certain position.

I hope this can be added to lichess one day! Thanks for the great work on the site.
I know what you mean. The analysis is absolutely fantastic, but over time a few additions could be made to improve it. I think multiple variations may require a bit too much processing power (but it'd be great if there was a way to do that). Possibly an option to select a move and have the computer analyse it separately to find what it deems to be the best continuation from that point, so it wouldn't have to give variations on every single move.

One thing I'd like to see would be some sort of indication in the analysis that the move you (or your opponent) played was the best possible move in the position. I.e. the one with the lowest centipawn loss or that which gives you the best points advantage.

Having said that, the analysis system is amazing and it has improved my chess to no end already!
I can see where you're coming from. Well, I hate to say this, but storing more variations would probably make for enormous storage costs. One game without analysis is already too many bytes when 250,000+ are played every day. Thibault knows best when it comes to this though.

And yeah, you raised the concern about CPU time. Just can't spend too long on those alternate variations. :/

A big concern is showing it in a clean interface, by the way. It is already far too cluttered and we have thought about improvements to it, though nothing much has happened. The colour coding was one such improvement, by the way.

It's important to note that lichess's analysis was never intended to be exhaustive. If you want to do serious analysis, you need to load up a chess program. However, it is a nice perk. Chess.com V3 has the same feature but runs it on YOUR device, which means say goodbye to battery and hello to 100% CPU usage. So it's pretty generous in that way, I suppose.
